My orchestration from the first edition piano score of this set of cotillons by Lanner based on themes from Bellini’s opera “I Capuleti e I Montecchi”.

I needed a set of cotillons to fill a hole in my website and these seem to have been forgotten. All that survives is the piano score.

I found these quite difficult to do. Although it’s in waltz time it is not a waltz and the long bel canto melodies don’t lend themselves to the Viennese dance style. The normal Lanner tics in the accompaniment just don’t work very well.

I don’t see how anyone could sensibly dance to the last few sections of this.

It dates from 1832.
