Philipp Fahrbach I
Feuerräder, Walzer, Op. 274
Arr. CPE Strauss
My arrangement from the Spina piano score of this waltz by Philipp Fahrbach I. I’ve stopped being surprised by how good these are. This dates from 1868, right in the middle of the golden age of the Viennese waltz, and is typical of his work of the period.
I’m not sure whether a Firewheel is a firework (Catherine wheel) or a big burning wheel for rolling down a mountain. I think it is the former. Each to his own. In England some people roll cheese down hills. The cover of the piano score has flowers on it!
