Hofballtänze, Walzer, Op. 161
Arr. CPE Strauss
My orchestration of this very famous waltz by Joseph Lanner.
The original score has been lost and so has Lanner’s original orchestration. The surviving orchestral parts are of a later date and do not correspond with Lanner’s orchestra of the period.
There are lots of recordings of this, usually in an anochronistic orchestration and often played in a later style. This is my take on it. It is my orchestration but I have at least followed Lanner's markings where possible.
This is the first Lanner waltz I ever heard and it remains one of my favourites. I just wanted to hear it my way, which is the main reason I do these.
