My transcription of Strauss’s autograph manuscript.

The piece was first performed in Paris during his visit in 1838 as part of Strauss’s tour of Europe

It must have been fun to watch as there are multiple changes of instrument in the brass section. Two of the four trumpet players also play the horn parts, with very quick changes between the two. To add to their misery, they had to play natural horns and trumpets in different keys. I reckon they must have had at least four instruments in front of them as there certainly would not have been time to change crooks. Berlioz comments on this in his article in the Paris press. He was very impressed with the Strauss orchestra.
