My orchestration from the Mechetti piano score of this march by Joseph Lanner. It is the third of three "Märsche des löbl. 2ten Wiener Bürger-Regiments. I did the first two marches a few years ago then lost the score of the third. It has taken several visits to Vienna since then before I remembered to get another copy.

No score or performance material seems to have survived, so I don't know whether this was written for military band or his dance orchestra. I expect Lanner made versions for both so as to make best use of the material. I've orchestrated it for his dance orchestra of the period.

I’ve taken the tempo from a contemporary Austrian army manual – “Der Manövrier-Marsch im 6/8 Takt 108 Schritte in der Minute auf jeden Takt 2 Schritte; auch „Reisemarsch" genannt. Sein Charakter ist heiter und von lebhafter Bewegung. Er dient besonders dazu, um die Truppe zur Kaserne zu begleiten. In letzter Zeit spielt man statt dessen auch Polkas in 2/4 Takt.”
