This is my orchestration of the second of the four galoppes Op. 97 by Joseph Lanner. They are supposed to be in national styles – Italian, Spanish, Hungarian, English – but in some of them you’d struggle to guess which. This one does at least have castanets to help.

This was first performed on the 21st February 1835.
