Freie Gedanken, Walzer, Op. 39
Arr. CPE Strauss
My orchestration from the Spina piano score of this waltz by Eduard Strauss. It was first performed in February 1868.
I have previously said that I am not Eduard Strauss’s greatest fan. I think he is a highly talented and professional composer but all too often restricts himself to going through the motions and producing fairly formulaic music. It sounds good enough, but there’s rarely anything out of the ordinary in there.
No reservations about this waltz, however. It’s first class. I did this in virtually one sitting as I wanted to see how it turned out! It seems to have sunk without trace. I can't find any sign of a recording.
