My orchestration of this march by Johann Strauss II from the 1850 Mechetti piano score. I’ve included the title page for two reasons. This piece was published in 1850 and “Johann Strauss (Sohn)” has already become “Johann Strauss”. Also, Mechetti is advertising parts for piano or cavalry band but not for orchestra. I have not seen any trace of the orchestral material, if it ever existed, and even the collected edition recording is for small brass ensemble.

In my opinion, it is not Strauss’s best work. The trio is nice but I think the march section loses its way a bit. I had trouble deciding what he was trying to do. Perhaps it’s just not my best work.
