A succession of musicians were appointed by Sullivan and his publishers to arrange sets of dances from the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. One was Charles D’Albert, a German born, English dance composer of French descent. (His son Eugen/Eugene has an even more impressive set of nationalities)

Unfortunately most of the orchestral arrangements were lost in a fire at the publishers in the 1960’s.

I have resurrected the galop and the lancers. I have no real idea of the speed of the various movements of the lancers in 1880’s England. Some very brief research only showed that the metronome seems to have been unheard of at the time.
