Joseph Lanner
Themis Strahlen, Walzer, Op. 147
Arr. CPE Strauss

00:00 / 09:26
My orchestration from a piano score of this waltz by Joseph Lanner. It dates from 1839.
Happy Christmas, Sokkratek!
And we were talking about goes in finales. Lanner is not consistent by this date as to what to put in the coda. He later settles on the familiar method, adopted by virtually everyone else, of reprising some of the waltz tunes, usually including 1A, which gives some structure to the overall piece.
This one is particularly messy. There are only about eight bars of music from the previous waltz in it. There is a short Rossini like crescendo and a totally new waltz surrounded by “ending” music. It’s Lanner so it sounds ok but it’s not very satisfactory technically. It’s a good waltz though
