Eduard Strauss (1835-1916)

337px-Eduard_Strauss_concert_poster.jpg

Eduard Strauss was the third of Johann Strauss I's

sons to make a career as a composer and

conductor of dance music. After the death of his

brother Josef and the semi-retirement from

dance conducting of Johann II, Eduard became the

main conductor of the Strauss Orchestra, a position

he held for thirty years.

His music suffers by comparison to that of his brothers,

as almost anybody's would, but he is a perfectly competent dance composer. Some of the polkas

are deservedly still very popular
